We prepare our students for college through a rigorous arts-infused program.

Why Enroll in Lighthouse Academies?
Core Values

Lighthouse Academies makes an extraordinary promise – if your scholar graduates from our College Prep Academy, he/she will be admitted to a four year college or university.

How will we prepare your scholar for college?

We will prepare your scholar through rigorous programs that provide him/her with the academic, cultural, and social foundation in order to succeed in and graduate from college.

Academically

  • College Focus: It is our job to make college real and attainable for all of our scholars. Beginning as early as Kindergarten, students learn about colleges and strive to build the skills and knowledge necessary to get them there.
  • More Time on Instruction: To ensure that every child masters the work necessary to prepare them for college, LHA provides more time on task with a  longer school year (190 instructional days) and a longer school day (8 hours).
  • Data Drives Instruction: State Assessments, NWEA, and curricular assessments combine to create a rich data set that teachers and school leaders will use to inform instruction as well as monitor student, grade and school progress on an ongoing basis. In addition, each student has an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that targets specific skills that both teachers and parents will agree to work with the child to develop both inside and outside the traditional classroom environment.
  • Research-based Curricular Programs: High quality research based curricular programs, including Open Court Reading®, Saxon Math®, FOSS®, Pearson Core Knowledge®, as well as varied instructional frameworks such as Understanding by Design and readers/writers’ workshop, provide the foundation for school-wide instruction and enable students to meet learning standards.
Socially
  • Social Curriculum and SHINE: Lighthouse Academies believes the social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum. The set of qualities (social skills and character traits) that all children need in order to be successful are included in our SHINE Character Education Program:  Self-Discipline, Humility, Intelligence, Nobility and Excellence (SHINE).
  • Parent Involvement: Lighthouse Academies highly encourages parental involvement to increase student achievement and support the home-school connection. Opportunities for involvement include: Annual Parent & Summer Orientation, Home Visits, Parent Induction Night, Monthly Parent Meetings, and Volunteering.
  • Town Hall Meetings: Scholars participate in monthly meetings to strengthen student achievement, empowerment and community.
Culturally
  • Arts Infusion: We infuse art activities and techniques into the teaching of all of our core subjects. Through an emphasis on classic techniques, creative exercises, critiques, gallery-style shows, and appreciation for professional artists from a variety of genres, teachers help students think artistically.
