Parent-Teacher Conferences Rescheduled for 2/6/15

As a result of the Snow Day on 1/27/15, Regents exams and midterms were rescheduled for Friday 1/30/15. This means Parent-Teacher Conferences will be moved to Friday, 2/6/15. There will be no early dismissal on 1/30/15 meaning scholars will be dismissed at 4:00 pm instead of the usual 1:30 pm dismissal time. For more information, please refer to the letter that was sent home with scholars (BLCPA 1/30/15 Schedule Changes).

Weather Advisory: SCHOOL CLOSED ON 1/27/15

Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 27. Given the snow day, Regents exams will be rescheduled to Thursday. The subjects impacted are:
  • Global History and Geography 
  • Integrated Algebra
  • Comprehensive Testing in Writing (special education)
  • Comprehensive in Mathematics (special education)

On Monday, January 26, all after-school programs, PSAL, and evening adult education programs have been canceled. School field trips and PD for teachers are also canceled. Regents exams are being carried out as scheduled. Principals and test coordinators have been permitted start the exam for all students – including students entitled to receive extended time – before the 1:15pm scheduled start time.

Dianne Hardcastle

Dianne Hardcastle is the Principal of Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy. She manages an incredible team of professional educators and challenges them to make a difference each day. With a school model which embraces arts infusion as a strategy for engagement, Dianne supports her team to develop creative strategies to encourage student empowerment, risk taking, and innovation. Prior to joining Lighthouse Academies, Dianne worked for Uncommon Schools, first in instructional leadership, and later in college access, where she assured a 100% college matriculation rate and saw the first Ivy League student acceptance. Dianne started her career in education as a part of the Teach For America corps in Philadelphia and every day she commits to challenge the status quo. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from California Polytechnic State University, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Chestnut Hill College.
Director of College Transitions

Alice Choi

Alice Choi is the Director of College Transitions at Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy. She works to create and enhance a college-focused culture of achievement, where high expectations and results drive students towards acceptance and success in college. She is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing all aspects of the college search, admissions, and alumni support processes. Prior to joining Lighthouse Academies, Alice worked for the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools in Los Angeles, as a math and ELA intervention teacher. Alice started her career as a Teach For America corps member in the Bay Area, where she taught high school math to recent immigrants and refugees in Oakland. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Wellesley College.
