Bronzeville is partnering up with Pasta for Pennies to raise money and awareness for leukemia. Donations will be taken March 3rd- 21st.

ISAT begins

Parents ISAT begins on March 3rd for 3rd - 8th grade. Please make sure your scholar arrives on time to school, eats a healthy breakfast and  is getting enough sleep for testing.

Interim Principal

Phyllis Goodson

Phyllis Goodson
A fulfilling career as a dedicated educator in the Chicago Public Schools has afforded Phyllis Goodson the opportunity to foster many capable youth. She holds a Masters Degree in Education from National-Louis University and a Bachelor Degree in biological sciences from Northern Illinois University. She was a former principal of the Chicago Military Academy – Bronzeville, (the first public college prep army military academy in the United States), and retired as Director of Academic Affairs in the Department of New Schools for the Chicago Public Schools. Ms. Goodson has guided, problem-solved, and facilitated educational reform through the development, review and evaluation of over fifty charter schools, contract schools, and small schools. Working with the Department of Education of Dominican University, Mrs. Goodson has supported the next generation of educators by supervising first year “Teach for America” candidates. She now serves as Vice President for Lighthouse Academies in Illinois and Wisconsin and is serving as Interim Principal for BZLCS.

Shalanda Morris

Shalanda Morris came to us from West Gary Lighthouse College Prep Academy, where she was Director of Instruction. Before that she taught ELA for 8 years in the Georgia and Japanese public schools and was a resident principal in Boston. She graduated from Spelman College and Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has two scholars who attend BZ - Soraya and Jasmine.
Coordinator of Family and Community Partnerships

Latoya Miller

LaToya Miller graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Saint Xavier. Ms. Miller is in her 7th year at Bronzeville and has taught grades 4, 6, 7, 8 before transitioning into Administration as the Director of School Culture and Family Coordinator.. She now serves as the Coordinator of Family and Community Partnerships.
School Operations Manager

Erica Ross

Erica Ross graduated from University of Memphis with a Bachelor's in Organizational Leadership and earned her MBA from American InterContinental University with a specialization in Project Management. Before arriving at Bronzeville Ms. Ross worked in education advocacy promoting the improvement of public school education. She currently serves on two non-profit boards one as Board Secretary and the other Director of Operations.
Director of Student Services

Lori Coomes

Lori Coomes is a graduate of the University of New England, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. After graduation, Ms. Coomes relocated to Chicago where she taught fifth and sixth grades in Chicago Public Schools. In 2005 Ms. Coomes transitioned to become the Director of Operations for Camp of Dreams. While working for Camp of Dreams Ms. Coomes pursued and earned a Master of Arts in social service administration from the University of Chicago. Ms. Coomes has served as the Special Education Coordinator and Social Worker at Bronzville for the last three years.
