Announcements

BZLCS was awarded the Michelle Obama Gold Award of the HealthierUS School Challenge for 2012. With this award, BZLCS a financial honorium in the amount of $1500.00 and national recognition in communications about the school recieving the award. BZLCS was able to get this award with the help of Mrs.Lacey. Go Bronzeville!

Principal

Ashleigh Plauche

Ashleigh Plauche
Ms. Plauche served as the Dean of School Culture at BZLCS overseeing the culture and implementing the Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS). She also served as the Director of Special Education as well as Title 1 Reading Specialist and Assessment Coordinator at BZLCS. Prior to joining BZLCS, Ms. Plauche was the Literacy Director at GiGi’sPlayhouse, where she recruited and trained educators, tutors, volunteers and parents of children with Down Syndrome for the literacy program. She was an elementary Special Education teacher for two years. Ms. Plauche holds a BA in Elementary Education as well as a Special Education Certification from Southeastern Louisiana University.
Director of Instruction, Lower Academy

Allison Adams

Ms. Alison Adams began her teaching career as a New York City corps member with Teach For America in 2004, and taught kindergarten and second grade in the Hunts Point community of the Southeast Bronx. She graduated cum laude with Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting and Art History from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign, and she earned her Masters of Science in Education from Bank Street College of Education in 2006. That year, Ms. Adams joined BZLCS as a Second Grade Teacher, and since then has taught fifth grade and served as the Arts Infusion Specialist. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, she was a Teacher Leader Fellow and mentor. Ms. Adams is the recipient of the 2010 Transformer Award for having the highest performing class in ELA across the Network.
Director of Instruction, Upper Academy

Stephen McClain

Mr. Stephen McClain joined BZLCS in 2011 as the Upper Academy Director of Instruction. Previously, Mr. McClain taught eighth grade English and served in various roles, such as Director of Team and Family Services and Director of Mentoring, in the KIPP Chicago- Gary region. In each of these posts, Mr. McClain has worked to close the achievement gap by providing equitable educational opportunities to all students through transformative curricula. Mr. McClain has earned a B.A. in Elementary Education Michigan State University, an Ed.M. in Teaching and Curriculum from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from National Louis University.
Director of School Culture & Family Coordinator, Lower Academy

Michelle Clayborn

Ms. Michelle Clayborn is a founding member of Bronzeville Lighthouse Charter School. She joined BZLCS in 2006 as the Family Coordinator and has served in this role for 5 years. Ms. Clayborn is currently in her 12th year of education and serves as the Lower Academy Director of School Culture and Family Coordinator. Prior to joining BZLCS Ms. Clayborn was a School Director at Cuddle Care Daycare for 4 years. She earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts from Columbia University and her M.A. in Educational Leadership from National Lewis University in Chicago, Il. She was originally drawn to Lighthouse because of the vision and commitment to providing scholars with the tools they need to be successful in life. Lighthouse is fundamentally changing the face of public education and Ms. Clayborn is proud to be a part of this movement.
Director of School Culture & Family Coordinator, Upper Academy

LaToya Miller

Ms. LaToya Miller joined Bronzeville Lighthouse Charter School in 2007 as a 4th grade teacher, and since has taught 6th/7th/8th grade Social Studies and Writing. Prior to joining BZLCS, Ms. Miller received a B.A. in Business Management from Howard University in Washington D.C. and a M.A. in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Social Science and Language Arts from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, IL. Upon completion of her education degree and 9 years of working in Chicago Public Schools, Ms. Miller felt it was important to find a school in the community where she was raised that valued higher education. Lighthouse’s mission, vision and desire to infuse the arts enhanced her desire to become a team member at BZLCS.
