Beginning nearly a decade ago through Teach For America, Aja started her career off successfully in New York City, ensuring over 90% of her students advanced at least two grade levels in one year. After completing her TFA commitment, Aja decided she wanted to make a larger impact. Leveraging opportunities to support other teachers with instruction, Aja became a teacher mentor in Atlanta. Then, she went on to conduct research at Harvard Graduate School of Education on teacher quality and human capital development. After completing her degree, Aja applied her research while acting as strategic management consultant for an education-based organization in Newark, and education management consultant for a teacher training program in Nairobi. Currently, Aja serves as Director of Instruction for East Chicago Lighthouse College Prep Academy, and Board Member for Darrell Talent and FHA, an independent K-8 school in Chicago.
