Principal

Michael Onofrio

With over 20 years of experience working in urban education Mr. Onofrio brings a passion and commitment to what he believes is the most important work we can do; educate and engage our youth. Mr. Onofrio comes to Bronzeville with 12 years of experience as an administrator with Chicago Public Schools. During his tenure at CPS he was instrumental in improving school culture by building systems that support all scholars, developing curricula around social emotional learning standards and providing instructional leadership and coaching models to support the challenging work of our teachers. Before his work as an administrator, Mr. Onofrio worked as a teacher, social worker and community organizer. Through this work, Mr. Onofrio wrote grants for community engagement activities, built GED and computer literacy programs for parents and community members and designed an experiential learning curriculum for diverse learners. Mr. Onofrio holds two Masters degrees, from Washington University, in St. Louis and Roosevelt University in Chicago. He also holds an Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License and is designated, by the state, as a REACH teacher evaluator. Mr. Onofrio is a strong advocate for improving outcomes for children and families and has dedicated his career to helping students succeed, teachers excel, and communities thrive.
