Announcements

Lighthouse Academies of Northwest Indiana is deeply saddened by the sudden death of distinguished colleague, coach and friend, Marvin Rea, who passed away suddenly following a car accident on Tuesday, December 5th.  Mr. Rea served as the Regional Operations Manager for Lighthouse Academies and as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Lighthouse College Prep Academy.  He previously was a founding staff member, athletic director and head boys basketball coach at Thea Bowman Academy where he led the boys to two state championships. Our hearts go out to his wife Kimberly, his sons Marvin Jr. and Nicholas, and the entire Rea family.  Counselors from New Horizons have been on site at Lighthouse College Prep Academy today and will continue to be on hand as needed for the foreseeable future.  Details regarding services will be provided when they are available.

Lighthouse College Prep will follow the Gary Community School Corporation decision when closing or delaying school due to inclement weather. If  GCSC is delayed or closed, then LCPA will be delayed or closed, as well.

School Leaders

Principal

Mr. Rodney Bly

Mr. Bly is an experienced instructional leader and educator. For over 18 years, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to teachers, students, and community. He began his teaching career in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1999. Mr. Bly first received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. In 2000, he went on to receive a teaching certificate and endorsement from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. After relocating to Chicago in 2006, Mr. Bly became an instructional leader with the University of Chicago Charter Schools. In 2008, Mr. Bly received a Master of Science in science education from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. After receiving an administrative certificate in 2011, he assumed the role of Principal with Chicago Public Schools. Currently Mr. Bly is completing a Doctorate of Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His research focuses on the systems and structures to support schools by building their capacity in leadership, organization, and instruction to in turn improve classroom instruction and student learning. Children are the guiding star for Mr. Bly’s moral compass. He believes that all decisions should be made with the students’ best interest in mind.
Assistant Principal

Ms. Jee Su (Susie) Choi

Ms. Jee Su (Susie) Choi joined the Lighthouse Academies team in 2012 as a math teacher in East Chicago. She began her educational career as a Teach For America corps member and taught various math classes including middle school math, Geometry and Algebra. Ms. Choi is an alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Mathematics. While educating the scholars of LCPA, Ms. Choi continued her education through the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, obtaining a Masters of Business Administration in Educational Leadership from the University of Indianapolis in 2016. Assuming the roles of teacher, Director of Instruction and now, Assistant Principal, Ms. Choi continues her commitment LCPA to ensure students get the best education possible.
Assistant Principal

Ms. Janora Holmes

Ms. Janora Holmes is currently an Assistant Principal of Climate/Culture and Science Content at Lighthouse College Prep Academy. She joined Lighthouse in 2015 as a Chemistry teacher and transitioned as Director of School Culture/Climate in 2016. Ms. Holmes earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Fisk University in 1993 and obtained her Master’s in Higher Education in 2011 from Kaplan University. Striving to be an agent of change for LCPA, she is currently pursuing her PhD. in Education, specializing in Policy, Leadership and Management, Ms. Holmes is dedicated to making LCPA the best school in Northwest Indiana.
Assistant Principal

Mr. Tyler Radtke

Mr. Tyler Radtke has lived in the region for over 20 years. He graduated high school from Griffith, IN where he was a three-sport athlete. After high school he attended Central Michigan University where he had the opportunity to play college football. Mr. Radtke graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He went on to teach for eight years in the Lake Central School Corporation, where he was also a Head Coach for football, wrestling, and track. While teaching Mr. Radtke went back to earn his Master’s for Education in Administration and Supervision and a Certification in Charter School leadership. Mr. Radtke is truly grateful for the opportunity to work with the students at Lighthouse, and is looking forward in helping to provide them with an education that will allow them to be successful in the future.
Regional Director of College Transitions

Mrs. Catisha Toney

Mrs. Catisha Toney joined Gary Lighthouse College Prep Academy as Director of College Transitions in June 2014. She comes from 21st Century Charter School@Gary where she was the High School Academic Coordinator for two years. During those two years she helped to attain 100% graduation rate and managed the dual credit program that graduated four students with an Associate’s degree from Ivy Tech Community College in addition to their HS diploma. She spent six years prior as the Special Projects Manager for the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Mrs. Toney received her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Public Affairs at Indiana University Northwest. Mrs. Toney has a strong yet unique higher educational background and prides herself on being committed to educating youth in Gary and paving ways to college and careers.
Director of Student Services

Mrs. Alethea Fontleroy

Mrs. Alethea Fontleroy joined Lighthouse College Prep Academy as Director of Student Services on July 1, 2014. She comes from Thea Bowman Leadership Academy Elementary School where she was Principal for the last four years. She spent seven years prior as the Assistant Principal/Team Leader for Thea Bowman Elementary. Mrs. Fontleroy received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Indiana University Northwest. Mrs. Fontleroy is excited to be part of a team who is committed to advancing the knowledge of our future leaders.
