Teach For America and Lighthouse Academies are dedicated to ensuring educational equity for all children. This means staffing schools with outstanding teachers and school leaders who are dedicated to academic excellence. Recently, Teach For America launched a new initiative with the goal of increasing the number of qualified alumni pursuing pathways to school leadership. With a base of nearly 17,000 alumni, 60% of whom are involved in K-12 education, Teach For America is able to meet Lighthouse Academies’ growing demand for exceptional principals and other school leadership positions in its expanding network of schools.
Through the School Leadership Initiative, Teach For America seeks to accelerate the path to the principalship for qualified TFA alumni through a structured program with Lighthouse Academies. This partnership offers ready access to Teacher Leader Fellow, school administration, and professional development opportunities at Lighthouse Academies for alumni looking to build school leadership skills and serve as school leaders.
Impact of Partnership
- 42 Teach For America alumni and 26 corps members are teaching and leading in Lighthouse Academies.
- 50% of Lighthouse Academies Principals are Teach For America alumni.
- 53% of Lighthouse Academies Directors of Instruction are Teach For America alumni.
- 58% of Lighthouse Academies National and Regional Leaders are Teach For America alumni.
- 50% of 2009 Top Performing Teachers in Lighthouse Academies schools were Teach For America corps members and alumni.
- 2009 Transformer Award (award given to highest performing teachers in Lighthouse Academies schools)
Recipients were both members of Teach For America.
