Capital City Lighthouse Charter School (CCLCS), a new, Lighthouse public charter school, is breaking ground on renovations for the new school, which will open in August for 344 scholars in Kindergarten through sixth grade. The school plans to add one grade each year and will serve 650 scholars in grades K-12 by 2021.

The 49,000 square foot facility located at 3902 Virginia Avenue (former home of Belwood Elementary) will include twenty classrooms for grades K-8. The facility includes a gymnasium, computer lab and outdoor play space and fields.

CCLCS will prepare all scholars for college starting in Kindergarten. All scholars at all levels are focused on not just getting accepted to college but succeeding in college. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Education program will provide rigorous academics as well as social and emotional development and engagement.

The facility is being developed and managed by Charter School Support Services Inc. a nonprofit that develops and manages charter school facilities nationally. Wittenberg, Delony and Davidson are the project architects and Nabholz Construction is the General Contractor.

CCLCS is part of the Lighthouse Academies nonprofit network of charter schools. CCLCS joins two existing Lighthouse schools in Arkansas, Jacksonville Lighthouse Charter School in Jacksonville and Pine Bluff Lighthouse Charter School in Pine Bluff. Jacksonville Lighthouse Charter School has 2 campuses and 3 schools including the main campus which houses the K-8 school and the College Prep Academy (9-12), and the Flightline Upper Academy housed on the Little Rock Air Force Base. Jacksonville Lighthouse College Prep Academy will have their first graduating class in 2016.
