We are pleased to announce that Metropolitan Lighthouse Charter School (MetLCS) has been granted a full five year charter renewal, the maximum renewal term a school can be granted from its authorizer in New York City. MetLCS opened in 2010 with grades K-2, and today serves 315 scholars in grades K-5. We will continue to add approved grades during this next charter term and will serve 572 scholars in Grades K-10 by the last year of this renewal charter term, 2018-19.

We look forward to moving to our new and permanent home for next school year at 180 West 165th Street.  This state of the art building will provide the best learning space for our scholars, and eventually include the College Prep Academy (CPA), our high school, as the school grows to serve grades K – 12.  The space will include exciting features such as multiple science labs, advanced technology in all classrooms, and a computer lab.

MetLCS received an A grade on the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) Progress report for last year, in various areas surpassing the results of the Community School District in which the school resided in.  We are and will continue to prepare our scholars for college every day through rigorous academics, social and emotional development and arts infusion.  We take pride in involving our parents and work with the community.  All of our staff is committed to doing whatever it takes every day.

MetLCS is part of the Lighthouse Academies nonprofit network of charter schools.  Lighthouse schools provide opportunities for children to discover, achieve, and prepare for success in college, incorporating an arts-infused philosophy.  We develop children’s critical decision-making skills to prepare them for success in life.  We work relentlessly to achieve these outcomes through a self-sustaining financial model to transform children’s futures.
